The Fine Line Between Ethics and Morals
The subjects of Ethics and Morals have been confused with each other since the beginning of time, until L. Ron Hubbard separated and clarified them. He defines Ethical Conduct as "conduct out of one's own sense of justice and honesty. When you enforce a moral code upon people you depart considerably from anything like ethics. People obey a moral code because they are afraid. People are ethical only when they are strong." He goes on to write elsewhere, "An ethical code is not enforceable, is not to be enforced, but is a luxury of conduct. A person conducts himself according to an ethical code because he wants to or because he feels he is proud enough or decent enough, or civilized enough to so conduct himself. An ethical code, of course, is a code of certain restrictions indulged in to better the manner of conduct." He also offered us a personal ethical code called "The Code of Honor" which can be adopted by the individual if he or she so desires. I have found that, when I follow "The Code of Honor" I gain self respect and when I don't I lose some.
A Modern Nonreligious Moral Code He also gave us a non-religious moral code, "The Way to Happiness" booklet, obtainable by clicking here Bridge Pubications. Over 72 million copies have been distributed world wide with a marked effect. For example, its distribution successfully calmed down the the riots in Los Angeles in the 1960s and in Cleveland in the 1980s. Recently millions were distributed that are helping the people of Israel and Palestine work things out and are assisting the people of Pakistan to do the same. The same booklet is part of a program that is starting to empty the prisons in Indonesia, Israel and elsewhere. It also serves to decrease employee theft and other unethical conduct in the workplace, so is distributed by hundreds of companies including at least one of the Fortune 500. These are proven, powerful tools to change unwanted condition for the better. It just takes more and more people to know and apply them to help make a better world. In addition, there is a powerful Technology of Ethics covered in the book, Introduction to Scientology Ethics by L. Ron Hubbard that outlines the steps up from a very low condition like Confusion all the way to the condition of Power. It includes all the basic material designed to handle the unethical conduct of those around you. It's an eye opener! To get a copy, click on this link.
